Its the pupusas (deep fried corn meal that's thicker than a tortilla and about the size of the coaster) that differentiates Salvadorian food from their neighbors. My fav is the queso y chicharron.

Hot 'N Cold Bowls - 1997
One of the local Thai restaurants in North Hollywood where I can get a large helping of Pad Thai.
The only issue I have is the name of the place. I'd prefer they gave it a Thai name because when I think "hot 'n cold bowls" my power of association starts to go towards teriyaki bowls, but teriyaki bowls aren't hot and cold. Eventually, I end up getting nowhere when I try to place the name with the restaurant.

Super Taco Michoacan - 1997
I always thought Taco Bell was authentic Mexican food, until I started eating at places like this. Although lengua is a regular staple with me, I can't help combining lengua with buche in a burrito. The lean soft meat of the lengua with the fatty and juicy buche is an excellent combo.

Gadberry's - 1997
Gadberry's - 1997
Literally, a hole in the wall. I ordered the barbecue (links and ribs) from a window and that's it. There's no chairs and table for a sit down meal. You order the food, you pay for your food, you get your food and you go.
The barbecue should be enjoyed at home or in my case in my car, because to eat within the neighborhood shows extreme disregard for personal safety and a liking for the ambiance of red and white flashing lights and the musical stucatto of gunshots.
